Sports enthusiast Lloyd Readhead, pictured below, has just completed a dynamic skiing challenge at the age of 75.
Our energetic Captain, tackled the famous Sella Ronda Circuit, skiing 30km in just 4 hours and 40 minutes, and in doing so raised more than £800 in sponsorship to boost club funds.
Lloyd prepared for the epic endeavour with three one-hour training sessions each week at one of the town’s gyms but completed no skiing practice.
“The slopes were packed with scores of other skiers which made difficult conditions as the pistes were covered in moguls. I had one wipe out in a particularly hazardous mogul field but survived without major injury,” said a bruised and battered Lloyd.
Lloyd, who was accompanied on the venture by his son, Neil, added: “We stayed in a village called Canazie in the Val di Fassa area of the Dolomites, Italy. The Sella Ronda route is complicated and mainly comprises of ‘red runs’. I was lucky to have a good ski guide so no time was wasted by getting lost.”
A former international gymnastic and UK coach, Lloyd drove in as Captain earlier this year, please see news separate story.
Will he be repeating the challenge next year?
“Not a chance”, laughed Lloyd, “my old joints would never stand it again.”
NB: Lloyd's chosen cause for fund raising this year is our club funds for improvements around the course.
